چکیده

The memory constrained nature of mobile devices, such as smartphones, limits the amount of data that can be stored locally. As a result, mobile devices often rely on cellular connections to retrieve application data. Environmental factors, however, can partially or completely restrict cellular connectivity. Autonomic distributed caching mechanisms can be used to allow mobile device networks to selfheal by storing data needed across multiple devices, but cannot be applied without a means to determine if devices are within a given range. Moreover, it is hard to identify the best way(s) of mapping application data to device memory to allow devices to self-heal in spite of limited cellular

Data ubiquity in autonomic wireless mesh networks

The ability to compute anywhere anytime is increasingly becoming a necessity. Wireless mesh networks (WMNs) have become a network of choice to provide broadband wireless Internet connectivity where wired infrastructure is uneconomical or impractical to deploy. Their support for inexpensive broadband Internet services has made them even more attractive and increased users’ demand. WMNs suffer fr...

Fern : An updatable authenticated dictionary suitable for distributed caching

Fern is an updatable cryptographically authenticated dictionary developed to propagate identification and authorization information within and among distributed systems. Conventional authenticated dictionaries permit authorization information to be disseminated by untrusted proxies, however these proxies must maintain full duplicates of the dictionary structure. In contrast, Fern incrementally ...

Concurrency and Replica Control for Constraint-Based Database Caching

Efficient and dynamic reallocation of data is a major challenge of distributed data management, because current solutions require constant monitoring and manual adjustment. In contrast, future solutions should provide autonomic mechanisms to achieve self-tuning and exhibit high degrees of flexibility and availability. Constraint-based database caching (CbDBC) is one of the most ambitious approa...

ENERGY AWARE DISTRIBUTED PARTITIONING DETECTION AND CONNECTIVITY RESTORATION ALGORITHM IN WIRELESS SENSOR NETWORKS

Mobile sensor networks rely heavily on inter-sensor connectivity for collection of data. Nodes in these networks monitor different regions of an area of interest and collectively present a global overview of some monitored activities or phenomena. A failure of a sensor leads to loss of connectivity and may cause partitioning of the network into disjoint segments. A number of approaches have be...
